In 2010, the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of Defense Nuclear Security began implementing a set of policy reforms to make the safeguards and security program more adaptive and cost effective. To accomplish these objectives, the reforms are clarifying, simplifying, and streamlining many of the requirements and procedures that compose the current nuclear security program. The reforms are captured in NNSA policy documents, or NAPs.
The first two NAPs, Information Security and Physical Protection, were released in July 2010 and are currently being implemented by sites’ safeguards and security organizations. Additional NAPs are scheduled to be released during Fiscal Year 2011.
To find out what the policy changes may mean for you and your work, to answer your questions, and to find other useful information, this NNSA Security Policy Implementation website has been established.
