Material Recycle and Recovery

The Material Recycle and Recovery (MRR) program provides for the recycling and recovery of plutonium, enriched uranium, and tritium from fabrication and assembly operations, limited life components, and dismantlement of weapons and components. MRR supports the process of recycling and purifying the above materials to meet specifications for safe, secure, and environmentally acceptable storage, and to meet the directive schedule for tritium reservoir refills.

Most of MRR’s work has been accomplished at NNSA’s Y-12 National Security Complex (uranium), Los Alamos National Laboratory (plutonium), and the Savannah River Site Tritium Extraction Facility.
