Texas Company Featured as NNSA Small Businesses of the Day
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) launched "NNSA Small Business Week," a weeklong campaign to highlight small businesses around the country that are making vital contributions to the nuclear security enterprise.
In FY2009, NNSA distributed more than $418 million in small business obligations for federal prime contracts in fiscal year 2009 – up from $241 million in FY2006, $396 million in FY2007 and $378 million in FY 2008. In addition, NNSA surpassed its departmental small business goal by more than 15 percent in fiscal year 2009.
As part of the NNSA Small Business Week, the NNSA website is featuring a different "Small Business of the Day" each day this week. Today's profile highlights PIKA International, Inc. (PIKA), an environmental services firm.
PIKA focuses on environmental remediation, construction management, and Low Level Radiological Waste (LLRW) needs for NNSA's Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Located southwest of Houston in Stafford, Texas, PIKA was established in 2003 and obtained its Small Business Administration (SBA) Certification as an 8(a), Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) Organization in 2004.
PIKA has performed, both as a prime contractor and subcontractor, at client sites located throughout the United States and abroad. Projects have included environmental remediation projects subject to Comprehensive Environmental Response and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act guidance with many of these projects involving the added complication of MEC.
