(MPC&A Program)
Mission
Improve the security of nuclear weapons and materials at their source, through material protection, control and accounting (MPC&A) upgrades at nuclear sites in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union.
The MPC&A Program is comprised of four complimentary divisions:
- The Office of Nuclear Warhead Protection [1] works with various organizations of the Russian Ministry of Defense, including the 12th Main Directorate (the organization responsible for nuclear munitions), Navy, and Strategic Rocket Forces.
- The Office of Weapons Material Protection [2] upgrades systems at Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom) weapons facilities.
- The Office of Material Consolidation & Civilian Sites [3] conducts upgrades at non-military nuclear facilities throughout Russia and works with other key partner countries.
- The Office of National Infrastructure & Sustainability [4] assists the Russian Federation to develop and maintain a nation-wide MPC&A infrastructure.
