WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Nuclear Security Administration today launched a new web page highlighting employees who have received professional awards or have been honored for outstanding work within their professional fields. The page, located at www.nnsa.energy.gov/aboutus/whoweare and featured on the NNSA home page, will promote employees from across the nuclear security enterprise.
"Without question, the talented scientists, engineers, program managers and technicians working throughout the nuclear security enterprise are our greatest asset," said NNSA Administrator Thomas D'Agostino. "Whether they are expanding the frontiers of science and discovery, working to guarantee the safety, security and reliability of our nuclear stockpile without testing, or using their expertise to promote nuclear security worldwide, the women and men working throughout the nuclear security enterprise are among the best in their fields. This new website is one way to ensure they are recognized for their professional excellence."
The website, which will be updated frequently, will feature notifications of professional awards and honors received by workers throughout the enterprise. Where possible, it will include multimedia presentations of the work for which those employees were honored. Updates to the page will be announced via NNSA's social networking sites.
The inaugural posts on the "Our People" page include two employees who recently received Silver Awards from Administrator D'Agostino for their work in nuclear nonproliferation and two researchers at the nuclear security laboratories who were honored by the White House last month.
The Silver Award is NNSA's second-highest internal award; fewer than 100 have been given since the agency was created in 2000. The White House awarded the two researchers the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Engineering Mentoring.

"Those of us who work within the nuclear security enterprise know that we employ some of the best scientists, engineers and experts in the world," D'Agostino continued. "Now the public can find out more about the people who make the commitment each day to protecting our national security."
Administrator D'Agostino also encouraged employees and managers from across the enterprise to notify NNSA when their colleagues receive awards and honors for work in their field.
Established by Congress in 2000, NNSA is a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy responsible for enhancing national security through the military application of nuclear science in the nation's national security enterprise. NNSA maintains and enhances the safety, security, reliability, and performance of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile without nuclear testing; reduces the global danger from weapons of mass destruction; provides the U.S. Navy with safe and effective nuclear propulsion; and responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the U.S. and abroad.
