WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) today congratulated its Pantex plant, located in Amarillo, Texas, for receiving the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award from the National Safety Council (NSC).
The award was given to Pantex for reporting injuries and illnesses that involved days away from work equal to or less than 50 percent of the Bureau of Labor Statistics rate for their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.
"I applaud the men and women at Pantex for receiving the National Safety Council's ‘the best of the best' rating in safety and safety performance," said NNSA Administrator Thomas D'Agostino. "NNSA is committed to the safety of our workforce and the communities that host all of our sites. We are fortunate to have dedicated professionals at Pantex and throughout the nuclear security enterprise who continue to ensure the safety, security and effectiveness of the stockpile and the work associated with it."
The award is a component of the NSC's member-exclusive Occupational Awards Program, created to recognize outstanding safety achievements among members.
Recently, NNSA's Kansas City Plant's (KCP) received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, America's highest honor for innovation and performance excellence. Earlier this week, Sandia National Laboratories earned an Electronics Reuse and Recycling Campaign (ERRC) award from the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive.
For 95 years, the NSC has helped organizations develop, implement, and improve their safety and health programs. The National Safety Council is a nonprofit, nongovernmental, international public service organization dedicated to protecting life and promoting health. Members of NSC include more than 51,300 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups, and individuals. Founded in 1913, and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953, the primary focus of the NSC is preventing injuries on highways and in homes, workplaces, and communities.
