The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) today issued a Request for Information (RFI) that invites comments concerning competitive alternatives for the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and Kansas City Plant (KCP). Interested parties are asked to submit comments by Sept. 6, 2012.

“We know there’s a lot of smart thinking out there,” said NNSA Principal Deputy Administrator Neile Miller. “We’re focused on continuous improvement. We’re looking for creative solutions to the complex challenges we face.”
In conjunction with the decision to conduct a competition for the management and operation (M&O) of SNL, NNSA is considering the potential benefits and challenges of acquisition strategies that include combining all or part of the SNL work scope with M&O work now performed at one or more other sites, including KCP. Physical relocation of facilities and mission operations is not under consideration.
As previously announced, the SNL M&O contract is being extended by one year to Sept. 30, 2013, with two additional three-month options to be exercised if needed. The KCP M&O contract expires Sept. 30, 2013, and includes two one-year options, which could extend the contract to Sept. 30, 2015. Upcoming procurement milestones and opportunities for comment on draft Requests for Proposals will be announced as NNSA finalizes its contracting strategy for the SNL and KCP work.
