WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) launched “NNSA Small Business Week,” a weeklong campaign to highlight small businesses around the country that are making vital contributions to the nuclear security enterprise.
In FY2010, NNSA distributed more than $395 million in small business obligations for federal prime contracts in fiscal year 2010. In addition, NNSA surpassed its departmental small business goal by 39 percent in fiscal year 2010.
As part of the NNSA Small Business Week, NNSA is featuring a different small business of the day each day this week. Today’s profile highlights Tri-State General Contracting Group, Inc. This business specializes in construction, design-build and building renovations. The small business started working on projects in 2004 as a subcontractor and then as a prime contractor. In 2008 the business was selected to participate in the Mentor/Protégé Program.
Currently, Tri-State General Contracting Group, Inc. is working at NNSA’s Pantex Plant replacing a building’s HVAC system and roof. According to Pantex officials, Tri-State has provided dependable, professional work while managing to work within the project’s schedule and remaining under budget.
“NNSA’s Pantex Plant has provided us unequal opportunities for our company to develop and elevate our project performance history,” said Jerry Reynosa, president of Tri-State General Contracting Group, Inc. “These experiences have assisted us in the placement of safety and health programs, quality, waste management and hazardous control plans. Our positive relations with Pantex have resulted in opportunities with other federal and state agencies.”
