Wayne Jones has served the United States of America for since 1981 when he joined the United States Navy. He entered Federal Civil Service as a Department of Defense (DoD) Information Technology Manager in 2002 and served as the Chief Technology Officer for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). In 2006, Wayne joined the Department of Energy to continue his service as a Federal Manager for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Wayne currently serves as the Associate Administrator for Information Management, Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the NNSA. In this role he is accountable for managing and implementing all operational, technical, and administrative functions in support of NNSA Cybersecurity and Information Management Program. He ensures the integration and coordination of cybersecurity and information technology support activities and functions throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise. He directs, reviews, and assesses the development, implementation, and maintenance of critical cybersecurity assets to ensure they support national security goals, DOE/NNSA strategies, and the continuity of operations of critical NNSA information technology assets. He is the principle advisor to the NNSA Administrator, the Principle Deputy Administrator, and the Chief of Defense Nuclear Security for cybersecurity and information management and operations. Mr. Jones represents the Department in both internal and external forums regarding cybersecurity, information management, and telecommunications.
Wayne is a certified DoD Chief Information Officer and Acquisition Program Manager for Information Technology. Prior to his time with the NNSA he served as the Chief Technology Officer for the DoD’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) where he was responsible and accountable for developing and launching a strategic plan and related management execution plan; revitalizing technology infrastructure through improved information system policies and network strategies; establishing technology risk assessment and information system threat methodologies; guiding staff in daily operations; and advising the Chief Information Officer on national security issues and organizational strategies.
Wayne earned two Bachelor of Science Degrees at Lane College in both Mathematics and Business Administration. He has also earned a Masters Degree in Information Technology and System Engineering at George Washington University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration at the University of La Verne. He is a graduate of the Information Resource Management College at the National Defense University and earned his Federal Chief Information Officer Certification and Information Assurance Certification NIST 4011 at the Defense Acquisition University.
Wayne is married to Carol Marie and has two teenage children, Alexander Marie and James Michael.
