This week, NNSA’s Principal Assistant Deputy Administrator for Military Application Brig. Gen. Michael Lutton congratulated Robert A. “Bob” Jones on 40 years of Federal civilian service. Jones is an experienced and highly regarded expert in weapons safety and security for NNSA’s Defense Programs.
“Bob Jones is an example of service before self,” Lutton said. “His dedication and expertise to national security continue to make this nation safe.”
Jones is the senior technical advisor for weapon component technology development, a role he’s held for more than nine years. Jones was born in Los Angeles, and earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee in 1973. He accepted position at the Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, D.C., in 1975.
Throughout his career, Jones has managed a wide variety of advanced nuclear weapon technology and development programs, accelerated analysis of solutions for NNSA and lab capabilities, and directed and mentored senior technical staff and personnel around the nuclear security enterprise.
Jones lives in Maryland with his wife Susie. He has four children and eight grandchildren.
