New NNSA program develops future leaders

NNSA’s 14 Mid-Level Leadership Development Program graduates.

Fourteen professionals from across the Nuclear Security Enterprise recently became the first graduates of NNSA’s Mid-Level Leadership Development Program (MLDP). 

Launched in 2016, MLDP is a yearlong program that recruits self-motivated and high potential individuals who want to take the next step in their NNSA career.

The program places participants in 60-day rotational assignments outside of their current roles.

Participants also take part in mentoring opportunities, leadership training courses, and a capstone project. “The core training identified for this year’s program was excellent and well-worth the investment of time and personal effort required for self-development,” said MLDP participant Shari Moya, human resource development specialist at the Learning & Career Management.

MLDP supports NNSA’s mission to retain highly qualified team members and support career progression. Additionally, the program prepares participants for advanced career opportunities as more of the agency’s workforce becomes retirement eligible.

The 2nd cohort of 15 high-potential employees was selected by the NNSA’s Leadership and Career Management Board. The group will begin in May at NNSA's Nevada Field Office. After the initial orientation, participants will move through the rigorous program components and join the ranks of future NNSA leaders with a graduation date in April 2018.

Across the nation, the NNSA team is comprised of dedicated professionals who are leaders in science, technology, and engineering throughout the nuclear security enterprise.
