This year NNSA went above and beyond in aviation program performance. The DOE Office of Aviation Management awarded NNSA organizations a total of four awards for 2016 for excellence in improving and sustaining the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of their aviation programs.

NNSA’s Office of Secure Transportation (OST) Aviation Operations Division landed two awards for its Office of Program Integration. The office’s director, Alex Bapty, was awarded the DOE Office of Aviation Management Managerial/Official Level Award, while Scott Spindler, a B-737 pilot, was awarded the DOE Office of Aviation Management Safety Award.

NNSA’s Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) Aviation Program also earned two awards from the DOE Office of Aviation Management. It was named DOE Aviation Program of the Year for 2016, honoring the NNSS aviation team for excellence in all aspects of the flight program. The NNSS Aviation Program maintains responsibility for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft that conduct an array of special missions, to include aerial surveillance and monitoring for radiological threats during major events around the world. Additionally, NNSS’ Remote Sensing Laboratory Chief of Maintenance Dave Krausnick was awarded DOE Aviation Professional of the Year for his contributions through exceptional operational skills and accomplishments.
