NNSA has many opportunities for employees to continue their professional development. Among these is the Mid-Level Leadership Development Program (MLDP), a year-long program designed to develop and prepare interested indiviuals with a high potential for future leadership roles in the agency.
The in-depth leadership training is designed to provide foundational exposure to leadership skills and competencies essential for individual and organizational success. In August, participants from the second MLDP class of professionals completed the second session of their core training at the Kansas City National Security Campus, which included a tour of the facility and conflict resolution skills training with the Office of Personnel Management.
“The leadership training has been very beneficial. I have discovered a lot about myself and how to relate to others that have different personality styles,” said Leslie Stevenson, program analyst in Defense Programs. “I have learned the key elements and skills for conflict resolution and the one that sticks out for me is becoming an active listener, which is one of the skills I want to strengthen.”
MLDP includes a 60-day rotation assignment, mentoring, site visits, core training, and a capstone project to prepare participants to fulfill leadership roles. The current program, which included an orientation at the Nevada Field Office, began with core training in team building and leadership training skills and a 360 leadership assessment. Participants will attend five core courses designed to help develop leadership skills and receive an OPM Leadership Education and Development Certificate upon completion of the program.
“The goal of the program is to help motivated employees reach their full potential in a career at NNSA, which is imperative for the success of our agency as it builds a bench of talented leaders,” said Dr. Dave Rude, NNSA’s chief learning officer and director of Learning & Career Management.
MLDP supports NNSA’s goal of creating meaningful and progressively responsible career roadmaps as NNSA strives to be a learning organization that promotes learning, development, and training to its employees for both the individual and organization’s benefit.
