The Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) celebrates its 65th anniversary this year. The first on-site test occurred on January 27, 1951, when the Able Test was detonated on Frenchman Flat. Among the many activities NNSS officials are holding to commemorate the milestone is an open house for employees and their families on May 7th. Up to 700 people are expected to attend the event, which will include bus tours of some of the site’s historic relics and mission facilities, information booths featuring posters and other information about the site’s various missions and support activities, and live demonstrations of safety, fire, and rescue capabilities. Because of the site’s security and remoteness, this will be a first-time look at NNSS for many employee family members, even some whose relatives have worked at the site for years. Happy Anniversary NNSS!
