Today, I was honored to have the opportunity to meet with John Beryle, Ambassador of the United States of America to the Russian Federation, as well as the hard working and dedicated staff at the Department of Energy’s Moscow office. I’m here in Moscow for meetings with our Russian partners to share information and continue to advance the nuclear security agenda outlined by President Obama and President Medvedev.
NNSA and DOE recently hosted a delegation of officials from Rosatom, Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation, to discuss nuclear security best practices. The group met first in Washington, D.C., and then traveled to the Y-12 Nuclear Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif.
The weeklong visit built upon on the efforts of the U.S.-Russian Nuclear Energy and Nuclear Security Working Group, which was established under the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission during the July 2009 Summit.
